(A Florida Not for Profit 501-C3 Organization)
The Anna Maria Island Privateers was established as a Not For Profit group in 1971 by a small group of individuals interested in being a support group for needed Manatee county and island youth programs.
Their Charter goals were to promote activities for the betterment of youth, to render service to the community and to participate in area events.
The Privateers sponsor a number of ongoing activities to raise funds such as mullet smokes, thieves markets, golf tournament, business captures, special events and of course, tax deductible donations are always accepted.
The Privateers hold various activities throughout the year including the 4th of July parade, Christmas Parade (complete with gifts for the children and Santa), "Snooks" Adams Kids Day with hot dogs, soda and games, and the Whitey Horton Golf Tournament to raise scholarship funds for local students furthering their education in whatever field they choose.
Members and the Krewe donate their time, blood, sweat, tears, and money - they buy their own gear, beads, bangles, buttons, and candy.
Membership is open to any and all!! To become a Privateer, an individual must be sponsored by a current "Black Shirt" member. The applicant member must attend at least two meetings prior to being eligible to be voted in as a probationary "Grey Shirt" member. This period lasts at least six months, during which time he or she is expected to actively participate in events prior to being voted in as a full "Black Shirt" member.
Annual membership dues are currently $150. Dues pay for expenses such as insurance, parade float maintenance, materials, and office needs.
